Today, as we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day—a day dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of one of our nation’s greatest advocates for equality and justice—we also witness the inauguration of a new presidential administration. The juxtaposition of these events reminds us of the challenges and uncertainties ahead, particularly for the communities we serve. It is a moment that demands reflection, vigilance, and action grounded in Dr. King’s enduring teachings.

Dr. King said, “I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.” While the current moment may bring uncertainty, Dr. King’s message inspires us to persevere. He also reminded us, “The time is always right to do what is right.” These words guide our work as we face the complex challenges of this incoming administration.

Following the election results, we issued a message outlining our commitment to actively monitor and respond to developments in civil rights and social justice. With the stakes higher than ever, we remain steadfast in this commitment.

From fair housing and employment discrimination to immigration policy, economic justice, police misconduct and protest rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and the preservation of affirmative programs, we are dedicated to protecting the principles of equality and justice that lie at the heart of Dr. King’s dream. Relman Colfax has a long history of advancing equity and dismantling systemic discrimination. We are continuously inspired by Dr. King as we seek justice in our work, whether it’s ensuring equal services for Gullah Geechee communities in Georgia, challenging gender discrimination in schools, or holding institutions accountable for housing inequities

We stand ready, strengthened by the lessons of the past and the knowledge that justice, though sometimes delayed, prevails when supported by truth, action, and unwavering dedication.
