Sacha Markano-Stark is an Attorney at Relman Colfax. She joined the firm in 2021 and practices in both the civil rights counseling and litigation groups.
As part of the firm’s civil rights counseling work, Sacha advises financial institutions and other organizations on compliance and best practices relating to fair housing, fair lending, and fair banking, including questions arising under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Fair Housing Act, and federal and state antidiscrimination laws. She also counsels banks, mortgage servicers, nonprofits, technology companies, and advocacy organizations on a range of civil-rights and antidiscrimination topics, including tech bias, appraisal-related issues, voting rights, financial equity, and affirmative lending programs. As part of the firm’s litigation practice, Sacha works on cases challenging redlining, appraisal discrimination, inappropriate uses of law enforcement authority, and other discriminatory practices.
Prior to joining Relman Colfax, Sacha was a litigation associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where her practice focused on complex civil litigation, internal investigations, and corporate compliance; anti-corruption and anti-bribery; and data security. She also maintained an active pro bono practice. Previously, Sacha was a judicial clerk in federal trial and appellate court. Sacha has significant experience in voter protection and voting rights, and served as the Voter Protection Director for the Montana Democratic Party in 2020.
While in law school, Sacha worked for the Equal Justice Initiative in Alabama; the Promise of Justice Initiative in Louisiana; and the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, Special Litigation Section and Criminal Division, Public Integrity Section.
