Tariq Hardiman is a Summer Associate at Relman Colfax for the Summer of 2024. Tariq assists the civil rights litigation and counseling groups.
Tariq is a rising 3L and J.L. Greene Scholar at Howard University School of Law, serving as a Community Service Chair in the Howard Public Interest Law Society. In this role, he identifies and coordinates student opportunities to give back to the community. In his 2L year, he served in the Howard University School of Law Civil Rights Clinic, providing valuable research and drafting for police brutality cases at the appellate level. Also, at Howard, Tariq volunteered in the Alternative Spring Break Program, conducting additional examination of pending legislation with the potential to detriment the rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
He graduated from the University of Toledo in 2022 and double majored in Law & Social Thought and Africana Studies. While at the University of Toledo, Tariq received the Dean’s Prize in Short Prose for his essay describing the continuation of the myth of Black dangerousness as a rationalization for state-sanctioned violence against Black people dating back to the era of legalized enslavement. During his undergraduate career, Tariq interned at The Fair Housing Center in Toledo, Ohio, assisting in many matters, including organizing landlord-tenant mediations, notating intakes, and drafting reasonable accommodation and modification requests for residents.
Before joining Relman, Tariq demonstrated his commitment to fair housing through his National Fair Housing Alliance internship. He worked on various matters related to redlining, special purpose credit programs, and Section 504 comments.
