Imani Cherry is an Attorney at Relman Colfax. Imani joined the firm in 2021. She practices in the civil rights counseling group, where she advises banks, mortgage servicers, and other financial institutions on best practices for complying with fair lending laws.
Prior to joining Relman Colfax, Imani worked as a corporate attorney, where she represented clients in various public and private debt and equity transactions. Imani also represented one of the largest Black-led U.S. banks in commercial lending transactions.
During law school, Imani interned at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in the Office of Fair Lending and Equal Opportunity, and the World Bank Group in the Doing Business Unit. She was also an editor of the American University International Law Review and volunteered for the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs.
Imani currently serves on the board of the Pine Forge Academy Foundation, one of the few historically Black private boarding academies in the nation.
In late 2021, State Street Corporation (State Street) hired Relman Colfax to complete an independent civil rights audit. The audit examined State Street’s business policies, practices, products, and services from a civil rights perspective. The final audit report was published on May 30, 2023.
